Our Programs
|
 |
The in-country
administration of the Guatemala Scholarship/Loan Program (a joint project with Redwood Forest Friends
Meeting in Santa Rosa, California) is under the direct care of our
meeting. This program, know as PROGRESA in Guatemala, supports over 130
students. Most study at the university level though some attend a
technical high school. The program is open to all but gives preference
to women and
students of Maya ancestry living in rural areas. A special
program gives scholarships to students whose lives were disrupted
by the civil war, allowing them to continue their education past 6th
grade.
PROGRESA offers Study Tours which
give participants a unique opportunity to visit service projects and
meet
former and current students while enjoying the natural beauty and rich
culture of Guatemala.

The FUNDIT
El Tejar Programs help
poor women and children in the small Guatemalan highland town of El
Tejar. They were founded by the late Nancy de España, a beloved
member of Guatemala Friends Monthly Meeting. Though Child
Aid, a US based
501(c)(3), non profit has assumed primary responsibility for FUNDIT’s
programs they remain under our meeting’s limited care.
